Awkward L is a Rapper, Producer and Apparel Graphic Designer (Carhartt, Adidas Originals). He was born and raised in the south west of England to a German father and an English mother. His name sake is Ludwig van Beethoven so music has always been destined to play a role in his life!

After studying in Bournemouth he moved out to Berlin to work for Carhartt Work in Progress designing prints and patterns for the clothing. This was followed by a move to Adidas where he worked on clothing in collaboration with Palace skateboards, Pharrell Williams and Alexander Wang to name a few.

Alongside this wild ride he continued to work on his musical journey. It all started around age 13 with writing a version of “Patiently Waiting” 50 Cent and Eminem. The track was recorded using garageband and the built in mic on an Imac G3 that he purchased for £30! Of course it was terrible but from this humble beginning a love of recording and eventually producing music was born.

Among the many varied artists that inspire his sounds there are a few that really had a huge impact; The Streets, Kid Cudi, Eminem, Skepta, Frank Ocean, Drake and Mac Miller. Other influences come from all different genres of music from 70s Rock to UKG.

Currently living in Germany, having quit his job at Adidas, you can find Awkward L working hard on all things music related. Also being a graphic designer has allowed him to really craft all areas of his image and music. The last 3 years have been a journey in learning to produce music using Logic Pro with some guitars and some midi keys. His rap style is built of complex rhyme schemes and clever thoughtful content. He would describe the sound as alternative hip hop. So far he has collaborated with ‘Looper’ (former Bass player and founder of ‘Belle and Sebastian’), Smuv (Prolific Hip/hop/ Lofi Producer), Saltyyyy V (Very good up and coming producer).
